Advent and Christmas |
Faith's Christmas Eve Services |
Lent and Easter |
|
Join us in Advent as we light our Advent wreath each Sunday and consecrate our new Christmas shirts. Watch for news of an Advent Family Craft Night and Cover-dish Dinner! There will be a "Hanging of the Greens" service, including a choral cantata on the Third Sunday in Advent, and a traditional Faith Family Christmas Program open to the community that afternoon with a soup supper following. Bring a dessert to share! |
7:00 pm Family Service of Candlelight, Communion and Carols, with special music and a visit from the Peli-Can Puppet Team. A nursery is provided for this service.
9:30 pm Festival Eucharist of the Incarnation, including the traditional Lutheran liturgy with Candlelight, Communion and Carols.
|
Faith's Ash Wednesday service of repentance and reflection includes the imposition of ashes at the service's end. This service of Holy Communion begins at 7:30 pm.
Join our congregational evangelism emphasis by wearing your Lenten Lapel pin (available at the church) throughout Lent. They'll be consecrated the First Sunday in Lent.
Watch for the Lenten sermon series...topics change every year, and there's usually a new theme banner to decorate our sanctuary! Our church's anniversary is on Palm Sunday, so we "pull out all the stops" and celebrate with a palm procession, special music and liturgical dance. Watch for information about the special coffee-hour or luncheon to follow worship that day. |

Faith's Holy Week Services |
|
Maundy Thursday 7:30 pm We alternate each year with the liturgical Rite for Maundy Thursday, including the stripping of the altar, and a Paschal Meal (a Christian remembrance of the institution of the Lord's Supper, based on the Passover feast. The Paschal Meal begins at 6:30 pm and is held in the Fellowship Hall by reservation -- just call the church to see if this is the year!) |
|
Good Friday Tenebrae 7:30 pm This ancient liturgy is also called the Service of Shadows and commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus with the progressive darkening of the sanctuary as candles are extinguished with each scripture reading.

Summer and Vacation Bible School
August 2-6, 2010 - 9am-noon "Baobob
Blast"
Sunday School classes recess for June, July and August. We have a special "Kid Thing" program during part of summer worship services. Our second service changes to 9:30 am. June brings our annual Father's Day Communion Breakfast at 9:30 am in the Fellowship Hall. Join us for
French toast and sausage, all the trimmings, and holy communion served at your table. July is our "Sabbath Month" at Faith. We cease all "work" and concentrate solely on worship as our families enjoy vacations and time away for recreation and refreshment. We're a very active congregation, and the Lord would have us "come away for a while and rest..." We also welcome many new visitors during the summer and enjoy special "Summer Thing at Faith" worship services, such as hymnsings and creative drama.
Vacation Bible School is the highlight of our summer ministry and it is always held the first full week of August from 9 am to noon. With approximately 40-50 children from our church and the community (and lots of adults and teens) we romp our way through the latest ELCA Vacation Bible School curriculum. There's music sing-alongs, crafts, interest sites, games, Bible lessons and refreshments as we create childhood memories that will last a lifetime. We really do have a great time. Join us! We begin with Age 3 and encourage teen assistants. Registrations by phone beginning in June. |

Rally Day and Christian Education |
|
Before you know it, it's time to gear up for another exciting year of mission and ministry in the Kingdom as we strive to grow as disciples of Jesus. |
|
We begin our Christian Education year with a traditional Rally Day breakfast in the Fellowship Hall on the second Sunday in September. (Our second service changes back to 10:30 am on the first Sunday in September, allowing for a Sunday School "hour" at 9:00 am.) Teachers are officially installed, classrooms are ready, and we're off! Faith Church uses a lectionary-based Christian Education curriculum for our Sunday School. Adult Forum, led by Pastor Nelson, is a Genesis-Revelation Bible study.
|
|
In September 2007 we begin with the gospel of Matthew. (No Bible study experience necessary, so join us!) Our catechetical program begins with an ice cream outing in late September. Classes for the 2 1/2 year program are held on Tuesday evenings, October through May.
|
|
First communion instruction for age 10 is provided just before Palm Sunday. |
|
Also meeting on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am: Sunday Breakfast Club for older teens, Teen Talk video curriculum for catechetical students. |
Bibles are presented to our 3-year-olds and again to young readers,
and are used, along with the Contemporary English Version for adults,
during our second Sunday family services. |
