Dwelling in the Word Lenten Bible Study
Dwelling in the Word is a 30 minute process for becoming aware of God’s presence and the Spirit’s movement by listening and reflecting on Scripture as a gathered community. Dwelling in the Word forms faith and trust within a group by sharing responses to three questions: what do I notice, what do I wonder, and where might God’s Spirit be nudging us?
The word “dwell” or “abide” is used frequently in Scripture, meaning to live or remain somewhere or with someone for a time. The practice of Dwelling in the Word invites communities to live together with a text for a period so that the reflections, wonderings, and promptings of God’s Word form and shape our faith and living. The purpose of Dwelling in the Word is not about answering questions or getting to particular results but rather allowing ourselves to be present with God’s living Word (Central/Southern Illinois Synod).
This Lent at Faith Lutheran and Jerusalem Lutheran, Pastor Ethan invites all who are interested to participate with him in “Dwelling in the Word.” Each week, Pastor Ethan and those who would like to participate will dwell In the lectionary texts for the following Sunday. This will start on the first full week of Lent. On Wednesdays (excluding Holy Week), Pastor Ethan will be leading sessions at 11:00 am at Jerusalem. Then, on Thursdays (excluding Holy Week) at 11:00am at Faith. See specific dates below:
At Jerusalem (11:00 am); 2/25, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25
At Faith (11:00am); 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
The Listening Life: Embracing Attentiveness in a World of Distraction by Adam S McHugh
"Be quick to listen, slow to speak." —James 1:19
“How would our lives change if we approached every experience with the intention of listening first?
Adam McHugh places listening at the heart of our spirituality, our relationships and our mission in the world. God himself is the God who hears, and we too can learn to hear what God may be saying through creation, through Scripture, through people. By cultivating a posture of listening, we become more attentive and engaged with those around us. Listening shapes us and equips us to be more attuned to people in pain and more able to minister to those in distress.
Our lives are qualitatively different—indeed, better—when we become listeners. Heed the call to the listening life and hear what God is doing in you and the world.”
Throughout the year, our congregations will be meeting monthly to discuss the book. Each month there will be two different sessions for one to pick from.
The sessions made available for February will be;
- February 4, 2026; in person/zoom at Faith Lutheran in adult education room; 6:00pm
- February 8, 2026: in person at Jerusalem Lutheran, after worship at 12:30pm

Do you shop at Giant?
If you do, you can buy Giant gift cards from the church. A $50 card costs you $50. How does the church make money? Well, when Faith purchases $1,000 worth of cards from Giant, they only charge us $950 (a 5% discount.) So, when we sell those cards to you, the church makes $50. It adds up…
Please keep the stamps coming!
It’s a continuing need! Thank you for all your contributions. It really helps!
Hatfield Flowers and Gifts (215) 822-1530) provides Faith with two lovely flower arrangements to adorn our sanctuary each Sunday.
You can sign up to sponsor flowers, bulletins or a food basket. The flowers are $35, the bulletins are $10 and the food basket is $25.
You can dedicate any one of these things to someone special, to celebrate a birthday or in memory of a loved one. You may take the flowers home or they will be given to an ill or homebound member. The $10 for the bulletins is to help cover the cost of making the bulletins and the $25 for the food basket is money donated to “Manna on Main Street” to help feed those in the North Penn area.
To sign up for a particular Sunday either sign up on the chart on the Foyer bulletin board or call Janet in the church office (215) 368-0240.

SOCIAL MINISTRY PROJECT FOR FEBRUARY & MARCH – WOMEN, BABY & HOUSEHOLD ITEMS FOR LAUREL HOUSE
Laurel House, located in Norristown, incorporated in 1981, is dedicated to the vision of ending domestic violence in individuals (both women & men), families and communities throughout Montgomery County. They are an advocate for those impacted by providing a safe haven, supportive programs and resources, as well as advancing social change through preventive education, community training and collaboration to create a coordinated response to domestic violence.
The name was selected because of the beauty of the laurel, Pennsylvania’s state flower. It represents a victory for people who have taken the courageous first step of reaching out to Laurel House in their efforts to build a violence-free life for themselves and their children.
